Girl Rising is an avid practitioner of the statement above. We are helping underprivileged women and girls with education, and are making people aware of the huge problem gender inequality is. Joining this club is one of the most important things I have done in my high school career. I am currently the president for the 2017-2018 school year and am ready to take on the challenge to empower women in my community.

Protest for women's rights to the judicial powers.

One of the first things I did when I joined Girl Rising was attend the women's march in Lima. I attended this with the teacher in charge of the Girl Rising club: Ms. Angela David, and also with Ms. Daniela Beartl. What we did at the March was, we had a group of women that had a movement sequence and a chant. We all dressed in purple and coordinated our moves to perform the chant as the march was going on. Seeing aa wide variety of women from many parts of Peru, and Ms. David that is not from Peru, joining forces to protest against the judicial forces was something I will never forget. The mass of women was substantial, and you could feel that many of them had experienced oppression and violence against them, so voicing their struggles is what people needed to hear. The president attended and many political figures attended making very important statements.

Girl Rising

The women of the Commons photography project  was made in order to make our Roosevelt community aware of the women in that took part in making the Commons. Women in the workspace are mostly taken for granted and we wanted to highlight them.
